accidently ran across information that Elizabeth Burgess of
Cumberland County, Maine married a Mordaunt circa 1880-could
be middle 1870's.I have been unable to locate a Mordaunt
family in Maine on the various websites, perhaps a sailor
stopping at Portland, Maine? Can you assist?

Hi - Born in San Francisco, 1928 my middle name is
Mordaunt and I cannot trace, nor have I been told, who the
Mordaunt in my life is (was). Are there any Dunns or
Mayfields, or Moultons dangling from your family tree?

The Block Family
Trying to find Mabel Mordaunt, actress, who married actor Wm. B.
Norris on 1 June 1910 at St. James Episcopal Church in
Chicago, Illinois. Her mother's name was Mary Mordaunt and
the mother lived in New York when they married. They had a
son named Wm. Jr. Marriage was reported in the NY Times on 2
June 1910, pg. 2. Wm. Norris died in West Bronxville,
Westchester, NY, on 20 March 1929. Death was reported in the
NY Times. I have no information after that. Have not found
Mabel and son in the 1930 US Census Actor William B. Norris
was born William Norris Block. I am a Block family member.
Welcome Wendy
I am interested in finding out if the painter Hal Mordaunt
listed above is my great uncle. I am the granddaughter of his
half sister. My great uncle Hal is well known for his
Floridascape paintings...is this the same Hal you mention? Wendy
(follow up)
O.K. Tom...here it
goes...
My great-grandmother
was Ethel Wynne Weatherly. She married Walter "Hal"
Mordaunt, born about 1871 or72. They married on April
15 1906 in Houston TX. They both traveled with the
"Sidney Pollock Theater Group". I have photos taken
after their wedding and photos from plays they were in
and theaters they performed at. They had 1 son, Walter
"Hal" Mordaunt Jr. ( my great uncle) born April 29 1907,
who became a painter...They divorced in 1913 for reasons
unknown, however I have a letter my great grandmother
wrote to her son Hal expressing deep love for Hal Sr.,
and great regret for having divorced him. I was given a
pocket watch by my uncle that he said had belonged to
his father, which is inscribed with his initials.
My great grandmother
Ethel W. Weatherly Mordaunt remarried Arthur Greenwood
Sherman. a bloodline descendant of Roger Sherman, signer
of the Declaration of Independence and William T.
Sherman of the Civil War, sometime between 1913 and
1915. They had 1 daughter, Ethel W. "Jimmie" Sherman
(Hal Jr.s half sister and my grandmother) who was born
Sept. 1915. "Jimmie" married L.J. Sanderson, the had 1
daughter Linda Liell Sanderson, (my mother). I could go
on and on but I'm not sure how much of this you are
interested in knowing, you see I'm a bit of a Genealogy
Nut!!!
I noticed that my moms
cousin Diane Mordaunt Reeves has signed your guest
book. She is Hal Jr.s youngest daughter, he also has
another daughter, Marge. They share a father but have
different mothers. There is more to the story, however
out of respect to my great aunt Myrtice Mordaunt, who is
still living, I need to respect her privacy.
I don't know how much
of this goes along with what you know, there was a bit
of guessing in our branches about the parents of Hal Sr.
and where they came from...my great grandmother thought
they were from the San Diego area, but if they were also
in the theater who knows...
I'd love to hear more
from you, and if you have any photos you could email,
I'd love to see them. I will send you scans of the
photos I have as soon as I get my scanner hooked back
up, (we just moved and are still unpacking).
Thank you Wendy for this great
information. I look forward to seeing some photos

Hi
fellow Mordaunt's! Great site! A suggestion for
the future: A genealogy program built into this
site that would allow other Mordaunt's to add
names, etc. so that eventually we will see how
all the Mordaunt's are related. This would be a
great help n establishing a link between Europe
and the U.S. My family still has not found who
or when our ancestors came over from Europe. I
was in England for 2 years and took some photos
and gathered data on Mordaunt Ancestry in
England. I visited Turvey, Peterbourgh,
Westminster Abby, and other places of
significance to Mordaunt's. Would the webmaster
be interested in putting some of these documents
on this site? The coat of arms would make a
great background :) Ferro Comite,
Mike
